Find a Word That . . .

Objective: To review vocabulary learned throughout the unit (and summarized in the Unit Summary at the back of the Student's Book), including the meanings of words, pronunciation, stress, connotations, and expressions

Steps:
  1. At the end of a unit, prepare a short questionnaire based on the Unit Summary. Write a variety of questions. For example:
    • "Find the opposite of  . . . "
    • "Find the same as . . . "
    • "Find a word with stress on the third syllable."
  2. Have students work in pairs to find the answers.

Look at the Key Vocabulary list on p. S-4 and answer these questions:
  1. Imagine you are looking for a house or apartment, and you see an ad with these words. Which ones indicate something positive? Check () the positive words.

    _____ convenient

    _____ noisy

    _____ reasonable

    _____ safe

    _____ shabby

  2. Find an adjective that means the same as "dingy":

  3. Find an adjective that means the opposite of "spacious":

  10. Find a word you like and a word you don't like. Why?

Adaptation: This activity can be used for any Unit Summary in New Interchange; it can also be used to review a group of several Unit Summaries.

Variation: Have students design their own questionnaires and exchange them with other students.
