Homework Activity

Objective: To have students look up the meanings of words or phrases before you teach Word Power; to promote a student-centered approach to learning

Steps:
  1. Before teaching a Word Power exercise, ask your students to look up five words or phrases they don’t know from the Word Power list. Tell them to be prepared to explain these words or phrases to other students when they come to class.
  2. In class, teach your students some useful expressions. For example:
    • "What does [word or phrase] mean?"
    • "How do you say [word or phrase] in my language?"
    • "Please repeat."
    • "Your turn."
Then have students form groups of three or four.
  3. Have students exchange what they have found out with one another. Check at the end if there are still any words or phrases the students don’t know.
