End-of-the-class party
This activity is designed to be taught with Exercise 8, "Plan on It."
Time: 1520 minutes. This activity practices describing plans for a class party.
- Explain the activity: Students make plans for an end-of-the-class party. Write these topics on the board:
Date
Place
Time
Menu (food and drinks)
Activities
Entertainment
Responsibilities (who brings what/who does what)
Cost per student (if appropriate)
- Students form groups. Tell them to brainstorm on the topics to get ideas for their class party. Set a time limit of about ten minutes. Go around and give help as needed.
- As a class activity, ask groups to take turns reporting their plans to the class. Take a vote (through a show of hands or with secret ballots): Who has the best plan? How many students really want to have a party? (Note: Consider the students' responses and then take it from there.)

Good intentions
This activity is designed to be taught with Exercise 12, "Reading: The future looks bright."
Time: 1520 minutes. This exercise give students' additional practice in talking about their future intentions.
- Explain the activity: Students think of some real "good intentions" things they would like to do but may not actually be able to. Encourage students to dream a bit. Write this information on the board:
Q: What are your good intentions?
1. I hope to be an interpreter at the Summer Olympics.
2. I'd like to go on a world cruise someday.
3. . . .
- Students first work individually. They should think of three good intentions and write them down using the verb + infinitive structure presented in Exercise 7 on page 101. Then students work in pairs and take turns discussing their ideas.
- Set a time limit of five minutes. As a class activity, students get up and ask as many other classmates as possible the question on the board. When time is up, call on students to report to the rest of the class on some of the better intentions they heard.
(Note: If the end-of-the-class party was planned in Exercise 8 on page 100 of this Teacher's Edition, give students some time to make final preparations, or hold the party now.)
