The Reading Section of the Computer-Based TOEFL® Test measures your ability to understand academic written English. It contains passages and questions about each passage.

In the Reading Section, there are four types of questions:
  • multiple choice
  • click on a sentence or paragraph
  • click on the word or phrase

  • add a sentence

In Cambridge Preparation for the TOEFL® Test, each of the almost 30 exercises in the Reading Section focuses on a specific skill: choosing the synonym and making inferences, for example. The following downloadable PDF* file contains excerpts from four such exercises.

Sample Pages
Exercise R11: Finding the referent
Exercise R13: Inserting sentences
Exercise R14: Identifying illustrations
Exercise R15: Identifying sentences

The CD-ROM contains seven complete Reading Section tests. You may take them under simulated TOEFL® Test conditions, or you may take them without time constraints and with study aids (instant feedback and book references).

The CD-ROM will familiarize you with the proper sequence in answering questions in the Reading Section of the Computer-Based TOEFL® Test.
